Katherina (Kat) Burba is a Master’s-level graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at the University of Wisconsin–Parkside and an intern therapist at Illuminate Therapy & Wellness. She is dedicated to creating a warm, supportive, and affirming space where clients feel heard, respected, and understood. Kat’s approach is shaped by her bicultural background and her deep respect for cultural differences, identity, and lived experience.

Kat currently works as a Behavioral Health Counselor in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, where she conducts comprehensive mental health assessments, facilitates individual and group therapy, and supports high-acuity adults and adolescents experiencing severe mood disorders, psychosis, trauma, and crisis-related concerns. She also has extensive experience working as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), providing behavioral support to children and collaborating closely with families and caregivers to promote growth, consistency, and wellbeing. Through this work, she has developed a strong appreciation for family values and the important role each family member plays in supporting positive, long-term change.

Kat practices from an integrative and trauma-informed perspective, drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), particularly in high-acuity and crisis-oriented settings. She is passionate about helping clients navigate anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and personal growth, and views therapy as a collaborative journey toward healing, balance, and one’s fullest potential. With an open-minded and nonjudgmental approach, Kat is committed to honoring each client’s unique story and creating an affirming space where clients feel empowered in their healing process.

Outside of her clinical work, Kat enjoys traveling, staying active, and spending time with family and loved ones. She values meaningful connection, balance, and personal growth and brings this grounded, compassionate energy into her work with clients.
