Tiana Henderson is passionate about helping others reach their highest potential regardless of their life stage. She believes everyone has it within themselves to overcome their internal conflicts and reach their goals with the proper guidance and skills. Tiana is disciplined, insightful, intuitive, and tenacious. Her strengths lie in her ability to develop trust and rapport with her clients through a holistic approach while utilizing evidence-based theories and approaches.
Tiana has experience in diverse settings working with individuals of all ages, such as youth in the school setting, community involvement, social justice issues, and those struggling with eating disorders and self-injury. Tiana specializes with couples and families, incorporating her knowledge of family dynamics and their influence on the scripts that shape our lives. She is also devoted to assisting teens and emerging adults navigate the unique challenges of growing up in today’s world. Whether it is managing anxiety, building confidence, creating healthy relationships, or finding direction in life, Tiana provides a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings and focus on understanding who you are and what matters most to you.
Tiana’s approach combines evidence-based practices like Emotion Focused Therapy to focus on de-escalating, restructuring, and consolidating couples’ relationships, family dynamics, and teaching individuals to increase empathy, communication, mutual respect, and understanding. Tiana also utilizes Solution-Focused and Collaborative Therapy modalities to help clients develop a clear picture of what they want to be different or improved through treatment, creating goals with positive outcomes. She teaches CBT and DBT skills for clients to gain awareness of their negative feedback cycles and learn to minimize and tolerate moments of distress.
For those interested, Tiana integrates sports psychology into therapy to help clients navigate the unique challenges of athletic performance and personal well-being. Drawing from her experience as a two-sport varsity athlete in high school and a Division I college athlete, she understands the mental and emotional pressures student-athletes face. By applying techniques she used in her own journey, along with training in evidence-based practices, Tiana supports clients in building confidence, managing stress, and finding balance between all their roles and responsibilities.
As a BIPOC therapist, Tiana understands how tiring it can be to show up for others while managing your own experiences around race, identity, and culture. Sometimes, you just want a space where you don’t have to explain the nuances of culture—you simply want to feel understood. She works with people who are feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or longing to feel more connected to themselves. Tiana creates a space where you can rest, reflect, and feel fully seen.
Tiana displays her authenticity through her humor and commitment to cultural competency, honoring the unique backgrounds and identities of the people she works with. Tiana works collaboratively with clients to ensure that their voice is always respected and aims to make therapy a place where you can be yourself without fear of judgment. Tiana designs her therapeutic approach so that her clients develop skills to manage stress, overcome challenges, and feel more confident in their ability to thrive.
In Tiana’s free time, she enjoys caring for her house plants, seeing friends, sipping green tea, shopping, and watching sports with her family.
Personal quote
“Life was never meant to be easy to navigate, especially alone. We are experts in our own experiences, and realizing the context of our stories is an important part of the process. We must learn to Protect our Peace to succeed in what we want in life.”
