Aaliyah earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Illinois State University and her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Throughout her clinical training, she gained experience working with children, adolescents, teens, young adults, and adults across a variety of mental health settings. Her diverse background includes providing individual and group counseling in community mental health, crisis intervention, behavioral health, and higher-acuity clinical environments, equipping her to support clients with compassion, flexibility, and evidence-based care.
Aaliyah specializes in working with adolescents, teens, and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, body image concerns, eating disorders, childhood trauma, life transitions, low self-esteem, and suicidal ideation. She understands that reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, particularly during periods of uncertainty or change, and strives to create a therapeutic space where clients feel safe, understood, and empowered to explore their experiences at a pace that feels comfortable for them.
Her clinical experience includes providing individual and group therapy through a holistic, trauma-informed approach at a comprehensive behavioral health non-profit organization for youth and their families. Aaliyah has also served as a Body Project facilitator, helping young women challenge unrealistic appearance standards, cultivate a more positive body image, and build healthier relationships with themselves. Additionally, she has experience providing crisis intervention and suicide risk assessments, supporting adults in domestic violence and anger management treatment programs, and working with children and adolescents with autism and developmental disabilities through behavioral therapy services.
Aaliyah believes that healing begins with understanding the unique experiences that shape each individual. Through a holistic, trauma-informed lens, she integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and creative expressive interventions to meet the unique needs of each client. She views therapy as a collaborative partnership and works alongside her clients to deepen self-awareness, strengthen coping skills, build resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Clients often describe Aaliyah as compassionate, approachable, and easy to talk to. She is committed to fostering a warm, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel genuinely accepted while also being supported in moving toward their goals. Her passion is helping individuals build confidence, develop healthier ways of coping, and navigate life’s challenges with greater self-understanding and emotional well-being.
Outside of the therapy room, Aaliyah enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring local coffee shops, creating art, staying active, and prioritizing self-care. She believes that wellness extends beyond the counseling session and encourages clients to discover meaningful practices that nurture balance, healing, and overall well-being.
